Writing Show guest host Alanna Klapp discusses writing fiction with author Thrity Umrigar.

A journalist for seventeen years, Thrity Umrigar has written for The Washington Post, The Cleveland Plain Dealer, and other national newspapers and contributes regularly to The Boston Globe’s book pages. She is an associate professor of English at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. The author of four novels, including If Today Be Sweet, The Space Between Us, and Bombay Time, she was a winner of the Nieman Fellowship to Harvard University and a 2006 finalist for the PEN/Beyond Margins Award. She has a Ph.D. in English from Kent State University. She lives in Cleveland, Ohio. Her latest novel, The Weight of Heaven, is available now.

Alanna Klapp writes short stories, essays, and poems. She graduated from Kent State University in 2002 with a B.S. in fashion merchandising. In 2005, she won second place in the Lea Leever Oldham essay contest. She is a member of The Lit: Cleveland’s Literary Center, and an online member of the Stow-Munroe Falls Writing Group. She lives near Cleveland, Ohio with her husband and is working on her first novel.
