Dr. Marty Young is a research scientist, editor, and fiction and non-fiction writer. He founded the Australian Horror Writers Association (AHWA) in 2003 and has acted as its inaugural President since.

As AHWA President, Marty has galvanised the local dark fiction community and grown the organisation to more than 150 members. He has overseen the implementation of the AHWA’s Australian Shadows Award, annual short story competition, mentorship program, Horror Day book promotion campaign, and the fiction magazine Midnight Echo. Marty’s work with the AHWA has seen him nominated for a Ditmar Award for two consecutive years.

Marty’s horror fiction has been published in the USA and Australia. One of his more recent stories “The Wildflowers” received an Honourable Mention in the 2008 Australian Shadows Award and made the recommended reading list of The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror 21st edition, as well as being reprinted in Australian Dark Fantasy and Horror 2008. His essays on horror literature have been published in journals in Australia and India.

After the reading, Marty joins us for a short interview.

Master of Ceremonies Stephen Studach is known as the ideas man of dark fiction. A writer, poet, editor, and reviewer, he has recently appeared in The Willows, The Harrow, Black Box, and Borderlands and has two stories in the Paroxysm Press anthology Ten Years of Things that Didn’t Kill Us. His fiction appears in the premier number of Midnight Echo as well as a series of groundbreaking interviews entitled "New Blood;" Stephen will also be guest editing the third issue.

Stephen reviews books at ChiZine and books, films and the occasional magazine at HorrorScope. This year his story "The Dead End" placed in the top four entries in the AHWA short story competition. He has also received honourable mentions in The Writers of The Future competition and placed in the top eight works in last year’s 13th Chiaroscuro Short Story competition. He has received several honourable mentions in The Year’s Best Fantasy & Horror.
